I don't know about you, but the highlight of the Super Bowl for me has less to do with actual football and more to do with puppies. I'm talking about the Puppy Bowl! This years Puppy Bowl XIII is set to kick off on February 5th at 2PM on Animal Planet.
The goal of the Puppy Bowl has always been to increase awareness of dogs in shelters and adoption. I love the publicity this event creates for shelters. I think it really inspires people because who doesn't want to adopt a football star? My favorite part of the game is the bio written for each dog as they run out onto the field. It creates a personal touch describing the pups likes and dislikes that I think jives with possible adopters. It is so heartwarming at the end of the game when pups are carried off the field in the arms of their new owners!
Puppy Bowl XIII has taken a different route to help shelters dogs. This year, special needs pups will make their debut onto the field! Lucky, Winston, and Doobert are all rescue dogs with their own special physical trait.
Lucky, the three-legged pup, lost her leg when it got stuck in a crate in her foster home. She and her brother are both participating in the game, making this tag team a force to be reckoned with!
Winston, an Australian Shepherd, is both hearing- and sight-impaired, but that doesn't stop him from being the best player he can be!
Doobert is a rescue from Troy, VA. Being completely deaf won't keep him seated on the bench! Hand signals help him understand the team's plays.
Special needs dogs are not different from any other dog and need just as much love. If you are in the market for a pup, don't discount those with extra character! #AdoptDontShop
