Once Autumn arrives, I try to fit as many fall activities into the month of October as I can. There are so many festive events going on it can be a challenge to balance that with work and other responsibilities. Pet owners may find it especially difficult to find events that allow your furry friend to attend!
A bonfire is a great excuse to get outdoors with your pet! Spend the day together gathering kindling in the woods and chopping logs. Invite other pet owners over while it is still day light so the pups can run around. By the time you light the first log, they will be more than willing to sit by your side on a blanket by the fire! Not only will a tired pup be a nice companion, but it will also benefit their safety around a fire pit.
Fall Foliage Hike
What better way to experience fall than to take in the changing leaves? Maybe you do not live in an area where the leaves turn color - no matter. Any reason to get outside with your pet is a good one. Take in whatever your neighborhood has to offer together!
Apple picking is a fall classic! Take your pup along to enjoy the views, smells (and maybe tastes) an orchard offers! Let your pet try a small piece of apple to snack on, or throw one down the row as a make-shift ball. Your pet will have fun chasing after the sweet treats and you can rest easy knowing your pup enjoyed his time!
Autumn is the best for outdoor festivals. It is not too hot, so a lot of planners make their events pet-friendly! During October it is common to see "Pup-tober Fest" or pet costume parties. Many times these festivals include food, beverages (alcoholic and non), and vendors with everything from jewelry to antiques!
Imagine a beautiful, sunny fall day. You are outside sipping on a flight of wine samples on a lawn chair next to your furry best friend. Sounds like heaven right? Wineries often allow leashed pets on the grounds in the "picnic" area. Tour the grounds or quietly sip, but do not forget to get your pet a beverage too (ice cold water!)
